Fun: playing Scrabble online with stealthpup.

Not fun: lunch with my parents.

Amazingly, today Mom expressed a radical change of outlook. It was given indirectly, in relation to her neighbour's grandson whose teaching career has ended as a result of mental illness. She acknowledged that pressuring depressed people to get their acts together is the worst thing you can do. She didn't say it, but implicitly, she realizes my own progress must be motivated from within. When I remember how she nagged me through high school, and how they both berated me when I was at the lowest of lows a few years ago, I have to admit they have come a long way. Dad started to come around a couple years ago. I can't remember Mom saying anything quite this sensitive before.

Sitting there with them, eating Eggs Benedict, I still felt sad and anxious. It's hard to let go of wanting their approval.

You got that right. I think the parent button is probably the hardest to unplug.

This is something I'm struggling with in dealing with stephe; /I/ can't nag /him/ into feeling better...and yet I want to do SOMETHING!

On a more positive note: bitterlawngnome's photographs are also a joy to look at. I'm wistfully envious.

When I was seriously depressed, the thing I wanted most from other people was to be treated kindly and respectfully.

I'm glad you liked the photos. bitterlawngnome has taken several sets. Are you referring to the ones in the grape arbour in July? They were the first, and perhaps the best.
