I almost posted this image last week, but chose others for my photo spread on Toronto's snowstorm. Seeing [livejournal.com profile] ruralrob's post today, I couldn't resist using it after all.

This was taken on January 27, the heaviest snow day, and Rob's was taken later in the week.

We crossed paths without connecting a couple times last month. One of these days I would like to do the...the clicky thing, and instead see Rob in the flesh.

Yesterday was a busy one, driving my daughters home then stopping in Toronto for a dual birthday bash for [livejournal.com profile] bitterlawngnome and [livejournal.com profile] danthered. More about that later.

Hey, that's quite a coincidence going there. The two pics make good companion pieces. In yours the area of interest is the people and whats going on outside, in mine it's the floor which was very sloppy but quite pretty. But they are both interesting pics, arent they.

Yes, indeed a fun coincidence. I stood there for a minute or two taking a whole series of pictures. The shadowy movements of people in and out the doors mesmerized me. This was one of the clearest images, but the blurred ones were equally interesting.

Another coincidence:

From May 1993 to February 1995, I live in the apartment tower on top of Wellesley Station, 15 Dundonald.

I suppose these doors were bound to appear in my journal eventually. I have never lived in Toronto, but for the past eight years I have visited the Village regularly. I have taken the bus and subway so often that these doors have a subliminal meaning to me, becoming an entrance to my home away from home, a place where I can let my guard down somewhat, meet friends unexpectedly, and smile at strangers. I realize many people who have lived there feel more cynical about it, and perhaps with good reason, but the limited amount of time I spend there allows me to keep the benefits in perspective.

On the "hubs" part of my web site, I keep meaning to create a list of the "important places to me."

I often find my mind wandering at random moments and visualizing 3-D models of places from my last... almost as if it were a mental exercise to see if I could re-create a location in my mind's eye.

Church-Wellesley would certainly be one of the hubs... and I can describe almost every foot (oops... meter!... It's Canada, after all!) from that station/my old apartment to Church and Wellesley... as well as Yonge from there to the HMV.

Many San Franciscans might relate to your "entrance" concept with Harvey Milk Plaza and the big rainbow flag there.

Oh... and ask Bill and the "TTC Casting Couch" concept.

I have listed several important places on my web site, but so far they're all outdoorsy. You have made me think about human spaces that are important to me.
