The Mediterranean greenhouse features plants from chaparral habitats. These occur mostly on the western sides of continents in temperate zones where warm ocean currents produce warm, arid summers and mild, rainy winters. Specifically these are found in California, the Mediterranean, South Africa and Western Australia. The plants are adapted for conserving moisture. They are often succulent with fuzzy surfaces, and frequently thorny or spiny.

Many of these plants bloom in February or March, so the greenhouse makes a nice late winter visit. Even more colourful is an adjoining room full of flowering bulbs like this Amaryllis.

As explained earlier, we did not have a chance to take a close look at the orchid show that was happening on Saturday, but a few displays were set up in the entrace to the RBG Centre, so I took a few shots there.

Date: 2004-03-23 06:44 am (UTC)I love them all. The orchids are sweet and dainty. I'm not that much of an orchid fan, but these I like.
brushing your left tit with my stubble and watching it bloom like a tulip bud (do you mind that I flirt so SHAMELESSLY???)
