Weekend pleasures
Oct. 18th, 2003 12:01 pmI'm feeling unusually happy. Danny is here for the weekend. I took him to the monthly gay and lesbian dance at the old schoolhouse for the first time. It was a costume party for Hallowe'en. I don't have any gear, so he brought down some tacky lounge wear. He looked stunning in a green leisure suit, really. My shirt and pants clashed deliciously and I added my old cream-coloured fedora, which I haven't worn in years. Birgit asked me if I was Walt Whitman. Michelle said I looked like a rabbi on vacation in Lauderdale. I guess my beard is acquiring some personality.
Sylvie won the costume contest. She was Sappho. She wore a toga with an olive branch in her hair. That part was simple. But she had built and painted an elaborate "stone" pedestal out of cardboard. Fitting it around her waist, she looked like a sculpture bust. It was stunning. Her imagination never ceases to startle and inspire me.
Back home in bed around 2, tired, Danny and I just held each other, touching. I drifted on a haze of pleasure until we dozed off.
This morning, we woke gently, gradually rising to stratosfaction.
Today is the Guelph Studio Tour, which has lots to offer. Also, as far as I know, this weekend is the first Guelph International Film Festival, which looks promising. This is such an amazing little city. Martin and Daniel will drop by for a couple hours this afternoon. We'll take in a few artists together. Danny and I plan to see a couple films later on.
