Busiest shopping day of the year
Dec. 23rd, 2003 04:59 pmThe girls and I went shopping today, and surprisingly we encountered no delays. Marian wanted to pick up a gift for her sister and spend the HMV gift card I sent for her birthday earlier this month.
A manager for a competing department store chain once told me Guelph's Stone Road Mall is the most successful mall in North America. I don't what to say about that. I can't see anything special about it. On the other hand it is a good mall. Arriving at 1 p.m. today we had no trouble finding parking. The mall was busy, but wegot around without problems and found what we wanted. I smuggled a couple more stocking gifts. Marian had to stand in the longest line at HMV, but it was less than a five-minute wait.
After that we drove to Elora, a scenic village north of Guelph, and picked out a couple new decorations at a Christmas store. The Grand River has some beautiful rapids beside a large mill. I wish I had taken my camera.
I did see delays at gas stations. I wanted to top up, but didn't feel like waiting in line. I'm glad I didn't because we got all the way home and I found no line at the tanks next door. Now the tank is full and I have no need to spend any more money for a few days.
We got in a few minutes ago and Marian is happily plugged into her new CDs while Brenna lies sleepily on the couch, gazing at the Christmas tree. Tonight we're having one of my favourite dinners, a leg of lamb I hoarded in the freezer several weeks ago. I'll go put it in the oven then catch up on some email.
