[livejournal.com profile] bitterlawngnome has posted a new series of portraits of me, artistic but definitely not work safe. Bearing that in mind, you are welcome to check them out.

I've given a few highlights of the trip so far. Here is an outline of where we went and what we did, day by day. You can click each photo to see a larger version on Flickr.

DCP_9390Aug. 9, mostly sunny: Left Guelph at noon. Followed the 1000 Islands Parkway from Gananoque. Camped at Voyageur Provincial Park. Visited the Ottawa River at dusk.

DCP_9399Aug. 10, thunderstorms: A quick tour of Old Montreal beginning with a carriage ride. The Biodome. Searched for a bank machine in a thundershower. Ate dinner at the Europeen in the gay village.

DCP_9432Aug. 11, rain (Ontario), clear (Quebec and New Brunswick), thunderstorms (Nova Scotia): Drove more than 1,400 km. Only significant stop was to see the world's longest covered bridge over the St. John's River in Hartland, NB. Arrived at Gary and John's farm in Cape Breton.

DCP_9499Aug. 12, clear: Drove the Cabot Trail clockwise around Cape Breton. Walked the bog trail at the national park. Barbecue dinner with Gary.

DCP_9588Aug. 13, rainy: Toured Fort Louisbourg. Had pizza at Gary's café in Whycocomagh.

DCP_9631Aug. 14, mostly sunny: Spent a pleasant morning alone with Gary walking around his farm. Visited Peggy's Cove. Met Aunt Nancy at Fort Anne in Annapolis Royal. Spent the night at Nancy and Jack's house.

DCP_9715Aug. 15, rainy: Saw my cousin Tracy and her three children. Visited Nancy and Jack's cabin. Drove to Yarmouth, but spent a couple hours shopping due to the rain. Nancy and Jack made a delicious steak and lobster dinner. Spent the night at their cabin.

DCP_9777Aug. 16, clear with low-lying fog. Swam alone in the lake at the cottage. Drove and ferried down Digby Arm to Brier Island. Birdwatched while the girl's poked through tide pools. Bought scallops in Digby and sauteed them at the cabin.

DCP_9890Aug. 17, clear. Nancy took us and her grandchildren to South Clements park for some rides. Drove to Prince Edward Island. Reservations hadn't gone through, but we got an emergency site and made proper arrangements for the next two nights. Battled sea wind in the dark to put up our tents.

DCP_9964Aug. 18, mostly sunny, scattered showers in the evening. Moved out tents to an ocean view site. Explored Cavendish Beach and Aeolian dunes. Body surfing with Brenna. Went to Summerside for a bank machine. Went to St. Ann's for lobster dinner. Saw a rainbow. Walked on the beach at sunset.

Resize of DCP_0124Aug. 19, clear. Toured Green Gables. Saw reenactments about Confederation in Charlottetown and shopped downtown. Visited Victoria beach and village, where we bought some artsy souvenirs. Explored the cliffs and beach at North Rustico.

Resize of DCP_0172Aug. 20, partly cloudy. Left Prince Edward. Visited the so-called Magnetic Hill near Moncton, New Brunswick (a terrible tourist trap and waste of time). Explored fishing villages. Ferried to Grand Manan Island. Saw whales from our site at Hole-in-the-Wall campground.

Resize of DCP_0365Aug. 21, wet fog. Explored Grand Manan Island. Highlights were the cliffs at South Head, the fishing village at Seal Cove, and the lighthouse at the Swallowtail. Watched seals. Played cards in the camp common room in the evening.

Resize of DCP_0400Aug. 22, partly cloudy. Photographed sunrise from our cliff-edge campsite. Left Grand Manan Island and drove to Quebec. Took photos along the St. Lawrence River. Camped at la parc national de la Jacques-Cartier.

Resize of DCP_0501Aug. 23, partly cloudy. Whirlwind tour of Old Quebec. Drove further up la riviere Jacques-Cartier to take pictures of the Laurentian Mountains.

Aug. 24, partly cloudy (Quebec), clear (Ontario). Drove home.
