Danny and Steve

Since the end of the kids’ summer holidays I’ve felt sexually out of step, with time to myself again but little interest in exercising the usual bachelor freedoms. I’ve felt autumn’s onset in both seasonal and metaphorical senses. It’s surprising, after spending a few days alone, to find I don’t care about getting laid.

But the past two days have served a rich reminder that the change of energy doesn’t prevent me from enjoying it fully. Maybe less is more, so I shouldn’t worry why desire no longer whines like a nightly dog at the door.

The boys had a house guest here in Toronto, Steven from Vancouver; [livejournal.com profile] bitterlawngnome has posted a few photos of his hotness. The five of us had dinner in the ghetto on Friday, and then the others went home while I stayed at O’Grady’s, visiting [livejournal.com profile] bruno_bt and [livejournal.com profile] detailbear, and making the acquaintance of [livejournal.com profile] iposthuman.

Satuday afternoon [livejournal.com profile] djjo, Steve and I made a pleasant excursion along Queen Street, shopping for books and pumpkin fudge. A huge mulberry shades the back patio at Vienna Home Bakery, but our server said it must be male because it never drops fruit. Mulberry trees are a symbol of my childhood.

A metaphor

The sun’s disc
on still water too raw
and terrible to look upon
until breeze ruffling the surface
breaks light apart sparkling,
each ripple too brief to behold
falling quickly into darkness,
but altogether its scattered radiance
delights the eye.
