Reflection
This is the Eramosa River journal. Yesterday I hiked upstream, closer to the source. Tonight I looked it up on a satellite map.
View in a separate window, make sure "hybrid" is selected
The Eramosa flows east to west and joins the Speed River in the bottom lefthand corner. I live on York Road southwest of the intersection with Victoria Road, just below the little black spot. I walk most often along the straight stretch of river below that. The pond makes a small bulge with a miniscule island. The bright green streaks are golf fairways, with University of Guelph Arboretum below them.
East of Victoria Road, Lilac Way follows the south bank. The olive green area is woods and meadows. The line of a limestone cliff cuts down the middle. The isolated white spot is the turfgrass research institute. Across the river, the larger white blob is Guelph Penitentiary. I have followed trails as far as Stone Road.
Yesterday I hiked from Watson Road east along the north side into the large woodland at the east end of the map. I've heard trails run all the way to Eden Mills. You have to pan east and a little north to find it, but the map becomes dark and obscure.
