Feather dreams

Two fair weather cows graze comfortably across a grassy hill. Today their abstract hides reflect the sky, blobs on blue so pure it might as well be black—overtones of violet, the secret colour that lines carapaces of the gods. Planets tumble through the hull of a regal old carcass. Meanwhile these Holsteins stroll peacefully. Understanding everything, they reveal nothing except black and white spots, and continue masticating.
Insects snicker down the ditches. Grasses tremble, transmitting dance rhythms along wire fencerows. The wind smells radiant.
Five peaches, first of the season, ride innocently in the back seat, with faces round and hopeful.
