Times are sad when the Canadian Martha Stewart of gardening, editor of recently defunct Gardening Life, can't find a job and has nothing better to do than blog. I have two or three of her books. They're lovely, but I never liked her scattered, punchy writing, offering no hothouse of insight and reflection that I love in a book like Cultivating Sacred Space by Elizabeth Murray. But Harris is full of interesting ideas. Ironically, a blog suits her dabbling style, and being unemployed might lead her to scratch a little deeper. But someone, please, find this good woman a job. When our brightest creative minds hit the wall, where will the rest of us find hope?

There must be powerful antifreeze in these Sedum leaves, because I've gone back twice in bitter temperatures to see what became of the dew, and it was still liquid.
