I have planned to set Thursday evenings aside for research, review and revision of the written material. Tonight is the first night. I plan to reread as much of NaNoWriMo 2005 as possible. At 7:00 I have a meeting with my writing partner. I'll also grab supper while I am out, so I don't have to worry about food and can concentrate on the task at hand. During the meeting I will assign deadlines to some other immediate tasks. I will work until 8:30 or 9:00, then come home and relax.

I'm uncertain about the plan to also make this weekend a working retreat. That makes two new challenges back-to-back, and I have other things that need doing (my car still needs a new headlight!). Am I pushing too hard? Alternately I could make a retreat weekend on the 27th.

This evening did not go quite as planned. After work I needed to be present for one of the important people in my life, and the phone call set my head spinning for a little while. And it is my writing partner's birthday; she still wanted to meet, but called to see whether we could shift it later to allow her partner to take her out for dinner.

I was afraid the cafés would be busy, I wouldn't find a place to plug in, and the laptop would run out of juice. So instead of eating out, I walked up the street and brought take-out from Wok's Choice. By the time I sat down with the manuscript, it was 7:00. So I read for an hour before going to meet Sarah at the Red Brick Café, worked there for another hour, then came home.

So it wasn't a bad work night. To avoid distractions after work, I could have put off that phone call until tomorrow, but then things wouldn't have worked out so well. I want to be focused, not inflexible.

Back home, I made a batch of sorghum blueberry muffins. Muffins are one of the things I really miss since going gluten-free. Texture is the problem. I've only attempted to make gluten-free muffins once before, and they were terrible. These ones are not bad. The texture is almost too light, but the flavour is delicious.
