Morning light

Yesterday we bought a duvet for the new bed to be delivered on Saturday. Then we went and picked up keys to the house. In the back yard I found what I hadn't noticed before: the square outline of a small garden, showing through the lawn like a hidden painting on a reused canvas. It used to be an herb garden. Some scruffy mint and creeping thyme and lamb's ears have survived lawn mower torture.
We have taken nothing of ours there yet, except the new duvet sitting by itself in the master bedroom. Still a few more times I'll sleep on the lumpy futon in my apartment. This morning I couldn't sleep, got up at dawn. The sunrise light fills me with nostalgia for things past. It is a good sign when you move to new things because they are good, not because the old ones are bad.
