Blogathon Debriefing
May. 31st, 2012 11:09 pmI finished the 2012 WordCount Blogathon, 31 post in 31 days. Some valuable lessons are recorded in today's post. For tomorrow's wrap-up Twitter party we are supposed to come prepared with answers to some questions. As I try to hold metablogging to a minimum at Speed River Journal, I will work out my thoughts here.
1. What was your favorite part of the blogathon?
I gave myself the luxury of devoting all the time I wanted to blogging for one month. I researched, took time writing, thoroughly edited and proofread each post. This gave rise to lots of content I am proud of. It will be a useful platform as I look for more writing work. Besides that, I valued connecting with other writers and receiving encouragement about my work.
2. What did you learn?
A lot of things, but here are some of the most important ones:
Allow more time to network with other writers. Along the same lines, I would have more than one guest post exchange. I would concentrate more on learning how to derive some income from blogging.
4. What would you change about the blogathon for next year?
I can't think of anything at the moment. Michelle and her support team did a great job of organizing and someone was able to help whenever I had a question.
One idea comes to mind: allow participants to identify their blogs by a few keywords. With so many blogs, this might make it easier to find people writing on similar themes.

- I would be perfectly happy to make a living doing this, if I could.
- Scheduling topics and writing posts ahead of time is a much better approach for many reasons. In particular it improves the quality of my work.
- It was not difficult to write 500 well-crafted words a day over an extended period. At that rate I could write a novel in six months.
