"Total protection" for the laptop
Jan. 16th, 2013 01:30 pmI signed up for the "Total Protection Plan" with this new laptop from Future Shop. It's a monthly payment. Besides extended insurance it includes on-call service 24/7. For a business computer it seemed worthwhile, plus I can write off the expense.
Today I saw it in action. I wanted to check whether the antivirus software was set up correctly, so I clicked on the protection plan desktop icon. This led to a session with a Future Shop employee who gained remote access to the laptop and spent 45 minutes optimizing everything, removing unnecessary promotional software, looking for Windows updates and making sure they installed smoothly. There will be a great advantage in getting the machine tuned up every few months, and without the inconvenience of getting dressed or leaving my office.
