Shaping up

My exercise routine, that is. I can't say I've seen much physical progress, except my upper body looks a little less saggy.

Anyway, my original objective for March and April was to get into a daily exercise habit. In March I sucked, so I gave myself an extra month to work on it. That turned out well enough.

I run into trouble whenever something disrupts my routine, such as travel or family visiting. I even took some weights on the road to the men's spring knitting retreat, but didn't touch them. Otherwise, at home I've settled into a fairly consistent habit of working out at 11:30 for 45 minutes, then taking a shower and eating lunch. Most days, I exercise.

I should not be surprised that my body responds more slowly to weight training than it used to. It is hard to learn the dance steps I'm using for cardio. It is going to take some time to round the corner and feel the benefits. This is harder work than expected. But most days I look forward to it, and anticipation is the key to a shift in behaviour.

Speaking of anticipation, June is going to be extremely busy. I'm participating in the WordCount Blogathon (over at Speed River Journal, not here), attending MagNet 2013 (the Canadian magazine industry's national conference) and Ontario Handspinning Seminar, opening up the cottage and running my annual route for the international Breeding Bird Survey. To fill in the gaps I have a new writing assignment due in three weeks. I don't expect much free time.

Instead of moving onto the next step in my 6 Changes for 2013, I'm going to hold that over until July. Meanwhile, I'll concentrate on finishing everything else an see how well I can stick with the exercise program.
