Weekend stuff
May. 2nd, 2004 01:15 pmLast night Danny and I joined some friends for dinner at Revival on College Ave. W. The street is torn up for repairs. Travelling by bus we arrived well ahead of everyone else, who had to scrounge for parking. It was an odd space, a Baptist Church turned Polish club hall turned dance club.
The occasion was a birthday dinner for
mathan, which included his partner
scottybear,
jgrizz,
theatrebear, and a few other of Iain's friends and relatives. All of these men I have gotten to know as an indirect consequence, but not directly through, LJ. It's intriguing how this journal has altered my life. A year ago, I hardly had any bear friends.
The salmon was excellent. So was the martini, a kassini: 1½ oz. vodka (should have been currant flavour, but they had to substitute raspberry) ½ oz. Cassis, and cranberry juice.
I've been back to the gym lately, and brought my Good Life membership along so I could work out this weekend. It's an interesting study, discovering the different flavours of Toronto clubs compared to the one back in Guelph. Maybe I'll journal about that this week. Right now I'm heading out to lift some weights, then back here to help prepare for the weekly Sunday dinner.
Today is rainy, and my shoulders are stiff from working out on Friday afternoon. This morning I only felt like being Danny's lap boy. But I hear him coming down the stairs with the vacuum cleaner. I better move before he mistakes me for a dust bunny.

Date: 2004-05-02 02:33 pm (UTC)I'm not so fond of crantinis or other variations on the theme. I went with a friend to a club in Kitchener that served at least a dozen different varieties. I didn't like any of the ones I sampled. I like gin and vermouth, shaken. Equal parts of each with a huge ass olive - and occasionally, I add a splash of olive juice - I think that's called a 'dirty martini'.
I like it dirty, baby. Hehehehe. ;0)

Date: 2004-05-03 07:40 am (UTC)I'm with you (although I don't put in nearly as much vermouth, and for myself I usually use a cocktail onion rather than an olive, which technically makes the drink a gibson). Oh, and the gin must be chilled (we keep ours in the freezer) -- ice does not belong in a martini.
