Teen gender bending
May. 26th, 2005 10:13 pmNext week is spirit week at Marian's school, and every day has a clothing theme. Tuesday is grunge day.
"My favourite is Wednesday," she said. "Opposite sex day! Isn't this a great school?"
"Opposite sex day, at an all girl's school?" I said.
"Well there are male teachers," she explained.
"What are you going as?"
"I dunno," she said thoughtfully, and was silent for a moment. "I guess I'll wear a moustache and a dress."

Date: 2005-05-27 08:33 pm (UTC)Talked to my mom yesterday; my parents spent the holiday weekend with my girls while I was in Rochester. Marian's exterior has been a little confusing to my parents the last couple of years, but she is starting to win them over with her underlying warmth and intelligence. To be fair, Marian has expressed frustration with my parents' fuddy-duddiness before, but she's starting to give them more of a chance, realizing they're more open-minded than the other grandparents. I just wish I knew how to cross the same bridge with Mom. But I'm certain her tolerance stops short of polyamory, so I don't know how to share my life with her anymore.
