Sidewalk café in the Distillery District

Friday afternoon I felt intensely alone in the presence of friends who have no children, as if we inhabit different universes. Such isolation comes from no one but myself. I needed to remember how to reach out differently from the way one does as a parent.

It was Lay-Bear Day Weekend in Toronto, and although [livejournal.com profile] djjo and I didn’t register, we connected with friends at peripheral events. At O’Grady’s Friday evening we visited [livejournal.com profile] bruno_bt, [livejournal.com profile] token_otter and Todd, [livejournal.com profile] jgrizz and Ed, and [livejournal.com profile] detailbear. Saturday afternoon I dropped by the Eagle to see [livejournal.com profile] freakystyle, and ended up visiting [livejournal.com profile] themacbear and [livejournal.com profile] gr8grizz.

We also drove to different parts of the city. The Distillery Historic District has rapidly emerged as “a pedestrian-only village entirely dedicated to arts, culture and entertainment.” We sampled beers at Mill Street Brewery. I liked the Coffee Porter. At Soma chocolatemaker, Danny treated me to Mayan hot chocolate, “spiced with Australian ginger, Madagascar vanilla, orange peel, chilli....”

Now I must return home, not knowing whether I’ll be able to restore my internet connection. Danny has given me a different cable to try. At least I feel reconnected with people, which gives me a better footing from which to re-entre solitude.
