A metaphor

The sun’s disc
on still water too raw
and terrible to look upon
until breeze ruffling the surface
breaks light apart sparkling,
each ripple too brief to behold
falling quickly into darkness,
but altogether its scattered radiance
delights the eye.

This is the picture

A railroad track at midnight,
curving between buildings in the distance.

A fuzzy ghost carries a phantom bicycle,
a light curving from the yet unseen train
illuminates rails.

The camera's eye could not work
that false miracle of immobility
in motion-- too little light
and no desire to fire a strobe
into the gentle night

This captured moment
wanders across the sensor
trapping a neighbor as an act
portaging a bike
in front of the oncoming glare.

A man becoming smoke, with a
bike in tow...

pursued by the glow of a hellbound train,
giving the most furtive of looks.

I hasten to add

Thanks Ranj, this whole exchange has given me nutritious food for thought, especially about how I relate to my own photography. I seem to keep my visual creations in a different compartment from the literary ones.
