Grenadier Pond, High Park, Toronto

Lake Ontario at Sunnyside Beach

This is the first time I’ve been able to blog on Thanksgiving, and spent it with Danny. We’re having perfect fall weather: sunny and cool in the breeze, warm in the sun. Yesterday afternoon we took the subway to High Park, walked down the west ravine all the way to the lakeshore and caught the Roncesvalles streetcar home.

I’ve been happy lately.

The way I was raised, it was one’s duty to be happy and grateful. The mind doesn’t work that way. Those emotions can only arise spontaneously when life is kind. It’s one thing to say thanks, and another to feel it.

I’m thankful for Danny, the pleasure of his company, and the stability this household brings to a corner of my life. I’m thankful for two beautiful, healthy, intelligent daughters. I’m thankful my parents are happy. I’m thankful for Jon, Bob, Sylvie and Sarah, and the whole mob of LJ friends.

For good health. For Remeron, Pariet and Viagra. For a sense of progress and process.

I’m thankful for Lake Fletcher, the Eramosa River, the comfort of Guelph and the adventure of Toronto.

I’m thankful for poetry, art, music and light.

And the aroma of turkey roasting downstairs.
