Two personal bests in Scrabble

I just got my highest score in Scrabble ever, 665 points, ranking eighth in Jomarco.com's list of the top 20 games. The game also features my highest ever single-word score, 203 points for BULLNECK (two triple word scores with the N on a double letter score), which narrowly missed making a top-20 list as well.

Wow. I'm seriously impressed.

When I was a kid and all of our family played Scrabble, our fantasy play (not surprisingly, it never came up) was a triple-triple of "quixotic" (with the X on the double-letter score). 356 points.

Wow. I'm impressed. I've been getting over 300 nearly every game lately and feeling like a bigshot, but over 600 points?!? That's intense.

I've asked for Scrabble stuff for Christmas. I want to get over 400. I need to learn some of the trick words. What's qat, for instance?

I had never thought that out, but it's hard to think of a better word. The best word score on Jomarco is 239 points for SNICKERY. Actually, two-person teams working together manage to achieve much higher scores: words like OXYPHENBUTAZONE for 1508 points. They probably do considerable planning to set up the board for certain 15-letter words that will hit three triple word scores. I've never tried playing that way.

I use this software called WordLexica for practice. It has a free trial period and costs $15.

My average game score on Jomarco is 395. I've played 165 games there this year! I can invite you, if you're interested. The annual membership costs about $25, but there is again a free trial period, I believe.

I've been turning this over -- I think I don't want to get too into anything -- even Scrabble -- just now. Even my poetry is taking a back seat. But I'm marking this page so that when the time comes, I'll know where to start.
