Beanie No. 3

Finished last night, this is my favourite so far, made with Noro Silk Garden colour 233. It was originally designated for Mom, but I have another skein of the same yarn, so this one will be donated to a silent auction to raise money for the Rainbow Chorus on Saturday night.

*drools*

Did you use double pointed needles or a loop? I have two scarves to do yet but think I'm ready for a hat next. Only ones I've ever made have I-cord at the top. How do you close up the top without that?

Oh very nice!

I quite like the blue at the top of the hat. The colours are pretty good in the pic, but much nicer in person. Good job!

How appropriate for the Rainbow Chorus!

I started it on a loop (16", I think) and worked on that until I got to the decrease section, and then transferred to double-pointed needles. You could do a 21" hat all on dpns, but when I made the 24" for myself, there were too many stitches and they tended to slip off the ends. Of course you can probably find bigger needles than the ones I have.

To close up the top, just decrease down to seven stitches on three needles, then use a tapestry or darning needles to run the yarn through all seven loops, pass it to the inside of the hat, pull it tight and then darn in the end.

Thanks, Love. I'm just getting caught up on LJ comments a little bit before Marian and I head out to do a couple things and then wander. ;-)

Hope you're having a good day there.

Thank you, Shimmer. I can't quite imagine myself wearing these colours, but I do enjoy working with them. I didn't get to see the teenager who won the hat at the silent auction, but Danny said it suited her perfectly.

I hadn't even thought of that, but it does!
