Thinking of you and the loss of Gerry. Today, this photo recalling a moment on Lake Huron. And something I read in Heaven's Gate, by Mark Doty:

After the last breath—no struggle, no grasping at life, the easiest of leave-takings—I swear I had the clearest image of Wally leaping free, as if he'd been so ready to go, as if some space had opened in the wall behind his head and that he'd simply leapt out through that space. Which was not a space at all in the literal sense, but rather a possibility, a shift in the quality of being from the ordinary life of the room.

You are one of LJ's great hearts and you will be well. To anyone reading, spare a moment to send forth thoughts of comfort, a prayer, whatever you will. Here it is raining, and I'm going for a walk.

how beautiful! thank you so much, van. yes, there was no grasping at life at the very end, though i had felt his resistance as recently as this morning. i think the chaplain's visit was timed just right and eased the way for him to let go.

Vicki, while I know nothing at all about your loss but what is said here, I know something about loss. I will bear some of the burden for you for a few miles while you catch your breath and take stock of your state of things. You must have been very well loved and your beloved must have surely felt as well loved by you. I am wishing you light and hope. -mark
