It would be an oversimplification to say taking my daughters camping at Bruce Peninsula National Park was just an excuse to photograph and pay homage to my favourite wildflower, Gentiana crinita, in the botanical paradise around Dorcas Bay. I also wanted to see and feel the incredibly pure, bracing, turquoise water of Georgian Bay again, and blog about the experience. I am as happy as a man can be returning home, physically exhausted, from three days in heaven. We are all well. Rain only affected us Wednesday evening, and that wasn't bad. Thursday was spotless. For its rugged beauty, Bruce Peninsula deserves a spot on the list of places to visit before you die. I won't have time to write about it in depth until next week. For now, here is a foretaste.

That is gorgeous. Where exactly *is* Georgian Bay?

I thought of you frequently during the past few days, there were so many wildflower species I've never seen in another location. The Bruce Peninsula is home to 44 species of orchid! Of course we only saw one of them in bloom at this time of year. It so happens I've always visited in late August, but I really want to go back earlier in the summer sometime.

Georgian Bay is the large body of water attached to the east side of Lake Huron, and Bruce Peninsula is the spit of land that separates them.

That is so nice it almost looks fake. Love the contrast of detail and blurry.

Thanks. These flowers look kind of unreal.

The photo of the bay with those color gradations is beautiful. It looks like a painting! Of course, some people complement paintings by saying they look like a photograph.

Brenna says she is happy to "just rot" and watch movies today, so I'll probably post more later. :-)
