But I'm not. Everything changes. Where did this energy come from? It draws me from room to room with broom or vacuum cleaner in hand, putting away books, rearranging furniture, measuring ingredients into the bread machine. Apparently it pleases me to do housework when there's some hope of achieving what I want. The deluge washed away so much clutter, the refuse of misery.

I stopped myself long enough to drop by The Cornerstone with the laptop. They don't have wireless, but I wrote a poem about a favourite theme: furniture and continental drift.

I just took that delicious wheat-free apple crisp out of the oven to take to Sylvie and Sarah's for a Chinese New Year celebration.

I always enjoy reading your journal, Van.

And I love the image you chose for this entry. Is it one of your own photos, or an image you saw elsewhere? Either way, it is fascinating and goes well with the text.

I'm glad you are managing to keep active in mind and spirit in these cold winter days.

And I hope to see you in person again when the weather gets a little nicer and more predictable.

Big hugs to you!

i'm glad for you that you were able to clear out so much detritus, although of course we would always wish a less shocking inducement than a flooded apartment! but it's very true that it rarely happens without something like that to goad us, and you never realize until it's gone how much it was clogging things up. I look forward to seeing some photos of the new space (I'm terribly nosy when it comes to the interior of people's homes).

I've been feeling more energetic the past few days as well; my acupuncturist tells me that the spring/wood energy (of growth, hope, new plans) is moving in over the winter/water energy, and I imagine that's helping me come out of hiding.

and, I haven't posted about it yet, but I saw a pileated woodpecker in the woods north of our town! I went out there with the (childish, admittedly) idea of hunting for owl nests or sleeping owls or whatever owls look like during the day, and was lucky enough to see the woodpecker. (probably needless to say I did not identify any owl-related activity in the treetops). I'm going to try again tomorrow to see if it's still around (no luck looking for it again yesterday).

You know, I think I could feel differently about housework if it seemed as though I might really accomplish something with it! But this old house is always way too far ahead of me... Lovely to hear you're feeling energized, Van.

Thanks, Bob. Yes, I took this through my office window this afternoon!

Pileated woodpeckers are nice! Friends of mine went on an "owl prowl" with a naturalist from the university arboretum last night, but they didn't see or hear anything either. If I were an owl in this cold, I doubt that I'd be very active!

Try not to worry about housework for now. Just rest and get yourself well! I wish I could drop over and do a little relief work, wash some dishes or something.

Great shot!

I was going to say something about hoarfrost, but I was afraid it might devolve into a tacky joke, so I refrained. *grin*

Anyway, I am so glad you took the bitter Arctic cold and found in it something of such beauty.
