New garden

Having set up a financial plan and resolved the major questions, I decided to take this evening off.

Jaye and Christine, the friends who lived in this apartment before me, established a vegetable garden in the little yard behind the building, so I inherited it, too. I don't expect much spare time to work there this spring, but after work I went down and planted a few things. It's unnatural to be able to cultivate the soil so early, but I'll make the best of what comes. Les had given me some rhubarb, but I don't have enough room to be generous to space invaders, so I plunged it in the shadiest corner. I sowed a few seeds of Dinosaur kale, Bloomsdale spinach and Purple Plum radish, all heirloom varieties. A couple of Jaye and Christine's kale plants survived the winter, so I should be able to harvest a few leaves soon.

Instead of starting tomatoes from seeds, I'm contemplating picking up a few heirloom plants from Kensington Market in a week or two. If the mild weather continues, it would be worth the risk of planting them for an extra-early harvest.

I have pasta on the stove. If it's not too late when I finish eating, I'll head to one of the cafés for some writing time.
