The last of my 6 Changes for the year is to "plan and prepare healthy meals." I'm going to have some fun with this one.

Someone (maybe Leo Babauta) somewhere said when you start making positive changes, other aspects of life will follow along. That has been the case with my diet. Setting a budget back in April had a huge impact on the way I eat. I had to start planning more, do less impulse buying, spend more on what I need and less on what I crave. I spend a significantly larger portion of my food budget at the farmers' market. My visits to the supermarket are becoming increasingly restricted to the meat and dairy aisles (much cheaper than at market).

I love food, but if I want to enjoy what I eat and keep it healthy, I have to cook more.

So I have. The meal planning and preparation I had in mind at the beginning of the year is close to what I am already doing.

So I'm adapting my plan for November and December, turning it into a project I've wanted to do for a long, long time.

I'm going to put together a cook book that contains all my favourite recipes but also makes it easy to plan and shop for healthy meals for a week.

I will put it together online in the form of a website, blog or set of documents. I will also prepare a publishable form. Anyone out there have ideas or technical savvy? Because I'm open to suggestions.

This one excites me. I just have to make time for it.

The next step, which I plan to do tomorrow night and post here, will be to work out a rough outline of the contents.

No particular suggestions as to format--I'm not that into web design--but I'll be following the cooking with interest, and (shyly) I suppose I could help test recipes as written/posted to check for errors. I've done that before. Not that I'm much into cooking, much less eating healthily or cheaply, or anything.

FWIW, I find making large batches of some recipes (especially soup, but rarely pasta dishes) and then freezing them helps for those tired, uninspired days.

I'm looking forward to hearing more about this one.

If you have time and opportunity to test any of the recipes, that would be terrific!

My approach is to make a large enough batch of something to last several days.

Let me know which to test, if that matters.
