Some elements of routine come back more easily than others.

My mind still wants a holiday from daily writing, so today I had to come home and work like mad to produce something because tonight it's my turn get critiqued at Writers' Circle. I tackled a scene from Pilgrim's Cross, so that was good. Recently I began approaching it mostly as a first-person narrative from the POV of my main character, quite different from the first draft and other previous attempts. It will be tricky to integrate subplots about which he is naive, but I have ideas how to do it.

I actually enjoy going to bed on time. Unfortunately Baldur's Gate changes the texture and quality of time, so I lost my chance to catch up over the weekend. I exercised three days in a row last week, then got distracted by life and, uh, Baldur's Gate (imaginary life). Danny has been away looking after the closing of his house, so this place is awfully quiet.

The last few days I've been paying more attention to what I eat; eating better in fact, mostly because I'm supposed to see a nutritionist on Thursday and must take some daily records of my eating habits. Nothing like having God over your shoulder to get things in shape. No harm in that, because this is all about what I hypothecally should eat, isn't it? If my own ideas of what I should be eating are awry, that needs to be fixed.

This afternoon I was supposed to see the doctor about last week's blood tests. I left the shop at 12:10, stopped at Zehr's to pick up something healthy for lunch, and when I came out the car wouldn't start. The starter is gone, to the tune of $450. It took me half the afternoon to get towed from Fergus to the north end of Guelph and make my way home across town by bus.

Despite which, I am not in a miserable mood. So it would be more accurate to say nothing is coming back easily, but everything is making clunky, haphazard progress. With Writers' Circle tonight, the prospect of a 30-minute bus trip home from downtown, and another morning trip across town to pick up the Sunfire, it's safe to say I won't catch up on sleep tonight.
