I had a vividly cinematic dream that seemed like a mash-up of The Constant Gardener, Cloud Atlas and Seven Years in Tibet. I was researching an article about an international revolutionary movement responding to a new environmental threat. The problem involved some kind of previously undetected radiation associated with common technology. It was found in building materials and processed food. I had travelled to various developing countries interviewing leaders, activists and underground rebels. The problems were worse there and governments were responding more slowly.

In a large South Asian city I interviewed a Buddhist monk who was supervising a cleanup operation. The streets were filled with crowds of monks, their orange and red garments brilliant against white buildings and an incredibly blue sky. My source explained they were looking for radiation. A lot of monks sat on cleaning platforms hanging down the sides of highrises. They used machines that detected radiation to scour the walls for toxicity.
