[livejournal.com profile] superdus encouraged me to draw the bottles in my windowsill which I photographed yesterday morning. As it happens, I did a drawing of the second one from the left (Harvey's Bristol Cream?) in 1999, the year I drew like crazy.

My scanner's colour reproduction is abyssmal. In particular, there are some dark blue-greens in the bottle and in the grey blob on the left which get interpretted as blue. I adjusted to get the colour of the paper more or less accurate. Further adjustments sacrifice other colours.

This image is actual size. Most of my drawings are this size. Like most, this is done entirely with Prismacolor pencils. More of my drawings can be seen in my gallery at Artists' Liaison.

Wow, Van. I never realized you were an artist. How cool to be so talented.

Sometimes drawing seems like a lot more fun than writing, but something has to give. I was awfully depressed when I did a lot of my drawings; they allowed me to express some beauty. Now that I'm writing so much, I hardly do any drawing. Maybe I should set aside on afternoon a week to draw, because I still get a lot out of it.

well, i'm impressed! sometimes i wonder why i keep on
doing my little scribbles, when i see what some of friends are
capable of. but they're fun, so i guess i'll keep on. i've
never posted any, but a few of you have gotten one in the mail.
so those lucky(?)few can judge my drawing talent(?)as you will.
i think you definitely should reserve one day for drawing, if
you have that kind of talent, Van. ~paul

Well I haven't seen any of your drawings to judge, but if they start with scribbling, then they're essentially no different from mine. It's about play.

The problem is fitting everything in.

you should definitely just set aside one afternoon, and instead
of writing, draw. that way, you'll still be writing regularly,
and you can exercise your drawing muscles, too.~paul

I'll consider it. I'm going through so many changes to my routine right now, the daily writing is a source of comfort and security.

Wow, that's *excellent*

I love the colours and the effect! What style of artwork would you say it was, apart from being your own unique style of course!!!

I'm afraid I don't know. My art education didn't go beyond three courses in university, and that was 17 years ago. I'm aware this imitates a certain style, but it wasn't done deliberately, it happened spontaneously when I drew the picture.
