I made several of my LJ friends partly because of lichen. Today the air is picturesque: surly wind, panic-stricken clouds, furious flashes of light on bloody, mad trees tearing their leaves. But the world of maple bark is peaceful. It has been a lichen morning.

maple bark lichen!
makes you want to foldle it
but that would hurt the lichen
so make a picture/poem
to last for others
and tiptoe
away

Wonderful thoughts! I received your postcard just as I was going out the door on Thursday, thank you! The dessert is so alive. In winter I wish I lived somewhere like Arizona, but in summer I would get homesick for Ontario's lakes.

you probably wouldn't want to be in Summer anyway, Van.
115°F and 30% humidity. Winter would be good for
you here, lots of light, balmy temps(for you)lots of places
to hike. of course you'd probably have to use a couple pounds
of sunblock. hahaha!

Wow that is an awsome picture!! Soo beautiful. How do you get that close to what your taking a picture of and not have it turn out blurry? You have alot of skill.

My point-and-shoot camera is temperamental about closeups because I can't control the focus, but by taking lots and lots of pictures I have figured out what works and what doesn't. It helps when the whole field of view is relatively flat, like in this image. I also held the camera several feet away, as far as I could without letting any background or sky into the viewer. A little more distance improves my camera's chances of getting a sharp focus. Back home I cropped the image to about 60 per cent, using my photo software, to get a closer view. Bright light helps focus, too, but the sky was heavily overcast when I took this shot so I was lucky on that point.
