Saturday morning we went to Guelph Farmers' Market and met Sylvie, who got along famously with Chris.
I stopped to buy a card from a photographer who has a permanent booth there. I had made his acquaintance several years ago, and was amused that he recognized me yesterday.
"You have let your beard grow long," he said.
I was amused because
Later I told Chris and Sylvie about it.
"I think he's a photosexual," I said.
"There are a lot of those," said Chris.
"Don't worry about it," Sylvie said.
"He probably wouldn't recognize Danny either," he said.
She shook her head in agreement.
"Only the camera," he added.
I'm still not sure whether I should feel jealous. Of course, with Danny I'll feel the same uncertainty around anyone selling good yarn.
After the market we went to Diana's Restaurant for big cups of their outstanding spiced chai tea and milk. Chris and I eventually made our way home for a game of Scrabble. It was a difficult board; not one word exceeded five letters. I won 303 to 266, but he had the best word score, 43.
He brought a couple videos which we enjoyed over the weekend. One was a stage version of my favourite Shakespeare play, Twelfth Night, starring Helen Hunt as Viola (read a review). The other was a corny National Geographic film from the 1970s, narrated by Jimmy Stewart, about four men following the Klondike gold route across Alaska. They all had gorgeous beards and accidentally set fire to their makeshift sauna. We all know why people read National Geographic, but I didn't realize the Society had filmed vintage bear porn, too.
This morning we remembered Daylight Savings Time at 9:15, or 8:15 rather, and were pleased to discover we had another hour together. Chris took me out for breakfast at Eggscetra before catching the bus at 11.
Honestly, I enjoyed his company more than I expected. When he walked through the door of the bus terminal on Thursday, our initial shyness quickly dissolved. Before long we were talking about anything and everything. He has been called the prettiest, but he is also one of the smartest and most courteous. I'll stop at that, though I can think of other superlatives.
Minnesota seems like a long way away today, but I can't imagine that hindering our friendship in the future, through LiveJournal and beyond.
