The angry pod
Nov. 4th, 2003 05:04 pmThe day started slowly. Early this morning I lay awake for a couple hours, fretting about things that make no sense in the light of day. I finally fell asleep again, 15 minute before Danny's alarm went of. I went back to sleep and slept unwittingly until after 10.
I rarely sleep that late even when I'm exhausted, but three conditions contributed to this: I'm away from home, the weather is sullen, and I have a deadline hanging over my head. My body seems to have a physiological avoidance mechanism that triggers sleep when I have important things to do. Fortunately my time is flexible, and the rest probably did me good.
But it didn't make for an easy start to the day. By 2 p.m. I had not written 800 words, and was starting to despair of reaching my 3,200 word quota.
Finally, in chapter 4 the fun started. The talking vegetable appeared on the scene. Its dialogue is irritable, opinionated, nonsensical and a joy to write. By 5 p.m. I had reached my quota.
At the end of chapter 4, I have written 9,912 words on the way to 50,000.
