The angry pod
Nov. 4th, 2003 05:04 pmThe day started slowly. Early this morning I lay awake for a couple hours, fretting about things that make no sense in the light of day. I finally fell asleep again, 15 minute before Danny's alarm went of. I went back to sleep and slept unwittingly until after 10.
I rarely sleep that late even when I'm exhausted, but three conditions contributed to this: I'm away from home, the weather is sullen, and I have a deadline hanging over my head. My body seems to have a physiological avoidance mechanism that triggers sleep when I have important things to do. Fortunately my time is flexible, and the rest probably did me good.
But it didn't make for an easy start to the day. By 2 p.m. I had not written 800 words, and was starting to despair of reaching my 3,200 word quota.
Finally, in chapter 4 the fun started. The talking vegetable appeared on the scene. Its dialogue is irritable, opinionated, nonsensical and a joy to write. By 5 p.m. I had reached my quota.
At the end of chapter 4, I have written 9,912 words on the way to 50,000.

Date: 2003-11-04 02:37 pm (UTC)I think you should try to encourage yourself to stay in bed longer in the mornings. It sounded as if you were getting way sleep deprived last week, esp. on Friday.
so why do you have to go home tomorrow, exactly? *g*

Date: 2003-11-04 02:49 pm (UTC)Wednesdays are rehearsal nights for the Rainbow Chorus. I already missed an all-day rehearsal on Saturday (it was on short notice, and I didn't want to change my plans), and I'll be missing one more before our concert on Dec. 6, so I can't afford any more absences.
