Ah! That's interesting, because to my eye she looks happy enough. Actually, it was quite a natural and candid shot. I was delighted to get a more thoughtful expression than the silly grin that appears in most photographs of my children.
Wish her the best of birthdays in whatever way won't seem like it's coming from a creepy stranger she doesn't know. :) It's a big day for her ... and maybe even for her Dad, huh?
I'm so fogged today that it's only now, looking at this photo for the 4th time this afternoon (it's a *classic* Friday afternoon here), did it hit me how much like you she is here in this picture.
It's probably just the expression on her face, and the way her eyes look, and the fact that she's posing between what looks like two limbs of a mighty oak... suddenly the portrait started to demand I hail it, "Daughter of Sylvanus"!
I hope you all have lots of fun tomorrow. I had a look at the website for that Royal Winter Ball (they must have a cartload of queens in attendance to give it that royal flavor, huh? all in tartan plaid suits, no doubt) and it looks like a little girl's idea of heaven, esp. the horse shows.
Marian looks even more like me, and has more of my mannerisms and demeanour. On the other hand Brenna's temperament is starting to remind me more of how I was at that age. And there's something in the eyes.
Queens? You forget this is Canada, where we still hold onto the last vestiges of our connection to the monarchy, so that adjective 'Royal' slips into the best of everything, left and right, with little significance.

Are there fewer queens in America? No. ;-)
And it's a Fair, not a Ball. You really were in a Cinderella fog today, weren't you, darling?
And looking just a little cold. Given the winds around here lately, I don't blame her!
I hope you all are having lots of fun today. Enjoy all the animals tomorrow! And remember, pay most attention to your daughters and not the other fathers wandering around! (just kidding, I know they'll have you fullest attention!)
