1. Do you like to shop? Why or why not?
I used to love shopping and it got me in debt. Then I hated shopping for a couple years because I couldn't afford to spend money. Finally I have reached the point where I enjoy browsing through interesting stores again—without spending money.
2. What was the last thing you purchased?
Last thing in a store was on Tuesday: eight packages of coloured pipe cleaners as a Christmas gift for my daughter, Brenna, who likes making little critters out of them. Last thing online was this evening: another Christmas gift, a "Brenna" handbag from this website: Brenna! which I learned about on LJ.
3. Do you prefer shopping online or at an actual store? Why?
Stores are far more sensually appealing, but only on the internet can you find anything with Brenna's name printed on it. I have also come to prefer grocery shopping online for practical reasons: impulse buying is easier to control, so I spend less.
4. Did you get an allowance as a child? How much was it?
Yes, but I can't remember how much. I think it started at 25 cents and worked up to $1.50. Later I got paid by the hour for mowing the lawn, because we had three acres that had to be done by push mower.
5. What was the last thing you regret purchasing?
Since I rarely buy on impluse anymore, regrets are even rarer. I can't remember the last time.

Date: 2003-11-28 06:30 am (UTC)Shopping is such an outer-space experience for me. I don't mean it's supercool or anything like that, I mean it's just weird. I've done the whole gamut of shopping, going into debt, not shopping, wanting to shop but able to buy anything. My opinion of it now, when I'm in WalMart of Target to pick up necessities, which is about the only reason I go to those stores, is how gluttonous the whole shopping process is now, how it's been made that way by corporate America.
2. What was the last thing you purchased?
While in Philadelphia the other day, I bought some pins. One was a rainbow pin, another said, "My other boyfriend is way hotter," and a third said, "Stop using Jesus as an excuse for being a hateful, intolerant jerk!"
3. Do you prefer shopping online or at an actual store? Why?
Not crazy about shopping online. Sometimes you can get good deals. But recently when I've looked at things to purchase, the shipping charges were outrageous.
4. Did you get an allowance as a child? How much was it?
I got $10 a week when I was in high-school, and had to buy my own lunches (which were $1 a day back then).
5. What was the last thing you regret purchasing?
SlimFast Soy, vanilla flavor. Oh. My. God. How utterly disgusting.
