Roast lamb dinner
Dec. 24th, 2003 10:07 amThis was dinner last night: roast leg of lamb with rosemary, mashed potatoes, steamed carrots with parsley, pear-pomegranate salad and peach chutney.

Brenna helped make the fruit salad, which was inspired by a jicama-pomegranate salad brought by friend Rod to one of the Sunday evening dinners in Toronto. I couldn't get my hands on a jicama, so we used crisp bosc pears. Brenna helped assemble it. The dressing was oil, mirin sweet cooking rice wine, lemon juice and chopped fresh mint.
Dad: Have some mashed potatoes.
Marian: No thanks.
Dad: I thought you liked mashed potatoes.
Marian: I do.
Marian: I'm too tired to eat mashed potatoes.
But both girls took third and fourth servings of the fruit salad. I have a few meals of leftover lamb in the freezer and a meaty bone to turn into Scotch broth.
