Before the temperature started to drop last night we must have had a little freezing rain because the high branches glimmered with crystal today. The sky was a blinding blue. Everything on Earth this blue—sapphire, azurite, the inside of a crab's shell—is rare and precious. Even true blue flowers are scarce. The sky is a wealthy god, vast and brazen, gloating downward. We are impoverished and our eyes smart at the sight.

The wind was sharp but I went for a longer walk than usual and took many pictures. At the top of a ridge overlooking the city my cap blew off but I managed to retrieve it. The building in the background is Guelph Turfgrass Institute, a big glass structure that stands alone on a hill on the edge of Guelph.

I saw an angel.

Hehe, I hope that was good for you, but let's get indoors away from this wind.

I loved your poetic commentary on the color blue (my favorite). As always, the photo images are wonderful. But the one with your face in foreground and the Guelph Turfgrass Institute in the background took my breath away. The ferocity of the elements forces your features into a visage of gentle, quiet weeping -- it's a positively beatific photograph.

Beatific? Haha! I was blinded by the fierce wind and naked sun, not to mention that outrageous blue sky. Glad you enjoyed it, though.

Ah the sere infinite blue of a cloudless winter sky!

but I think Daniel was playing with his Hoover around that "snow angel."

The closeup makes me want to kiss you, which may account for the stern look in your eyes. :)

My cap flew off at precisely the instant I snapped that picture. Here I thought it was the wind, when it was actually you trying to undress me for the camera. And in such bitter cold. You really are a naughty faerie.
