there's a sort of poignancy to the first photo -- the boarded up windows, the little sprig of christmas lights. it looks so lonely and sad.

I passed quite a few tired old building on my way to downtown London yesterday morning. Across the street from that house I took some photos of graffiti, which I will post in the near future.

Most of our newer bricks are in the same colour range you describe. In buildings built around Ontario more than 100 years ago, one sometimes sees bricks like these or often a dull yellow. It probably depended on what kind of mud was available.
