I'm so used to living alone that I'm having trouble getting accustomed to Marian's late-evening habits. She doesn't go to bed until 11:30, and I still want time to myself after that, so I stayed up later than I should over March Break and didn't get enough sleep. Today was a recovery day. I'm feeling antisocial.

Lacking anything else to say or show, I'm giving a list of the 25 items I order most frequently from GroceryGateway.com:

  1. Allen's Apple Juice

  2. Dempster's English Muffins, Original

  3. Milk - 1% Partly Skimmed: Natrel

  4. Rold Gold Cheddar Twists (pretzels)

  5. Bananas

  6. Peppers Green

  7. Kraft Macaroni and Cheese Dinner

  8. Margarine, soft, 1 lb., Becel

  9. Blueberries

  10. Juice - 100% Cranberry Peach Blend: Our Compliments

  11. Oranges Large Seedless Navel

  12. Yogurt - Vanilla: Danone Deslisle Creamy

  13. Sunshine: White Bread

  14. Puffs Ultra 3 Ply Facial Tissue

  15. Ceres Litchi Juice

  16. Lemons: Large

  17. Cream - Half & Half 10%: Dairyland

  18. Melons Cantaloupe Large

  19. Sour Cream: Sealtest

  20. Cottonelle 2 Ply Bathroom Tissue

  21. Romaine Lettuce Large

  22. Potatoes Yukon Gold

  23. Cheddar Cheese Bar, Old: Our Compliments

  24. Parsley: Curly

  25. Limes

No, I don't normally eat white bread. I only buy it when the girls are visiting. Usually I choose multi-grain our sourdough. Otherwise this list is indicative of what I use most often. Obviously I'm fond of fruit and dairy products. Not enough vegetables, I know.

How fascinating. I love that you buy curly parsley--remember the big jardiniere that has it growing by the kitchen door out at the Farm?

I looked through this twice for animal protein, but see no sign (apart from the cheese, obviously). Do you tend to go out for your meat fix?

Another synchronicity is that you mentioned blueberries. As I was getting ready this a.m. for some reason I was pondering making some halvah with blueberries and bananas. Was torn as to whether to make it with blueberries or strawberries. Definitely bananas, though.

Guess it's time to get some cream of wheat and whole milk...

hugs, Shimmer

No, I order meat every week; it's just that I don't order the same meats frequently enough for them to move high on the list.

26. Shrimp - Black Tiger Easy Peel Medium

My favourite food along with fruit and cheese is shellfish. I'm also partial to steak, but usually go for more economical items like chicken, pork chops or ground turkey.

Blueberries: Yes. Do you get the round plastic tubs of frozen ones? I can go through a few of those a week.

White bread: Have you considered egg bread? It has a wonderful soft texture, toasts beautifully and has a much fuller flavour than white.

Kraft dinner: One of my minor bĂȘtes noires. Usually when I eat it I wind up remembering why I generally don't eat it. Carb and lactose overload. Oof. It's better with actual, real chedder grated in and allowed to melt.

Hey, thanks for pointing out the frozen fruit. I got in the habit of buying fresh blueberries when they were in season, but they're not economical this time of year. I will try the other frozen berries, too.

White bread is just a concession I make to my daughters' tastes when they're visiting. I like multi-grain or sourdough bread, so I normally buy Dempster's or one of the Grace Bakery products.

I haven't eaten white bread since.... I can't remember. Yuck! Milk is only good for cooking or adding to a latté. Otherwise, milk is some of the nastiest tasting food I can think of. I've disliked its taste since I was about 3 yrs old. I remember forcing myself to drink a glass of milk at that age... I still remember it! Gawd... anyway, fruit juice, yum!!!

I don't care for white bread either. The reason it got bumped high on the list is because my daughters have been here for the past couple weeks, and they won't eat anything else. Milk, however, I have always liked. Although I usually only use it on cereal or in cooking, lately I've been drinking glasses of it because it buffers my stomach.

I can't begin to tell you how relieved I was to read this.
