I'm an MIT grad - our mascot is a beaver. I have a pewter beaver I got for some reason and my ring, whereever it is, has a beaver on its face. The ring is called a brass rat and the convention is that you wear it facing out before you graduate to signify the beaver shitting on you and then turn it around -bottom towards the rest of the world after you graduate.
