The view from my desk

First thing in the morning, the street is dark with fallen rain. A thunderstorm passed in the night. I missed it. I don't know about it until Cathy, the homecare nurse, tells me how her dog jumped into bed and woke her.

I want to take pictures around my apartment. Yesterday I removed the batteries from my beard trimmer and put them in my camera, a temporary solution.

Today I walk down the street to the larger variety store to buy some batteries that work. They cost almost twice as much as the ones I bought on Tuesday. This is the problem with digital cameras. I thought I would save the money I used to spend on film and developing. Turns out I'm spending it on batteries.

At Short Stop variety I indulge in another weakness: candy. It's a new brand of jelly bean called Teenee Beanies. The name should be enough to gag me, but impulsively I buy.

The air outside is drenched and fragrant. That's Ontario for you: winter one day, summer the next.

I come home and take pictures of my office and living room windows. Outside is desolation. My apartment overlooks Highway 7.

But I love having a bright place to work. This is my morning room, full of light.
