Monitor test
May. 4th, 2004 10:59 amI discovered months ago that my monitor loses details in the dark values, which are clearly visible on other monitors. It's annoying knowing that other people will see more in my images than I can! But I don't know how typical my monitor is. Now I have a specific example that will allow me to test it.

When I looked at this unaltered image on Danny's new monitor on Saturday, I could clearly pick out colours in the stained glass window within the crematorium chapel. When I got home and transferred the same image onto my computer, I could see nothing beyond the top step but darkness and some faint light from the window, almost undetectable. Probably this has caused me to overlook many usable images. I need a better monitor. I suspect it also leads me to brighten many images more than I should for viewing on LJ. For the time being, it would help me to know what other people see.
