Driving in the wind

After so much warm weather, autumn is moving in a hurry. Wind kept nudging the Sunfire on Saturday's trip to Hockley Valley. It has never let up. Clouds keep marching overhead like a ragged army from a devastating battle. En route to the gym at noon, shattered sunlight flooded my eyes like fragments of an Impressionist painting. Gusts enveloped the car, thrusting and massaging. Small elephants copulating.
The storage top cuts down streamlining. That was when it hit me: what to do with the storage top? I intended to revisit the cottage this fall and store it in the usual place behind the shed. Gas prices have made the trip impractical, and now, with the weather turning cold and the daylight short, I'm losing interest. It won't fit anywhere in my apartment, and I rue the notion of lugging its unwieldy bulk down the narrow basement stairs. But it can't stay on the car all winter.
The next question is: will Dad recall the Sunfire? If he does, I suppose they can store the top at their house. But I hope not. The car simplifies a few aspects of life, particularly grocery shopping, chorus rehearsals, and going to the gym.
