Back to London
Feb. 26th, 2009 06:40 pmDad's pneumonia was probably caused by bacteria in his blood picked up in London. The infection and fever are under control, but there is an unexplained pain in his upper right chest, possibly a pulled muscle. The surgeon who performed the bypass surgery on February 3 wants to check everything out. Besides, Leamington Hospital is not equipped for post-op patients. So the surgeon wants Dad back in London. An ambulance will transport him as soon as a bed is free, probably tonight or tomorrow. My uncle will follow the ambulance to help Dad get settled, then drive home. I will probably go to London tomorrow and stick around until he is released, then take him home. I won't have any work next week, so I can stay with him for a few days.
I have never heard Dad so emotional as he was on the phone today. But everyone I have talked to says he is improving, and that the doctors are taking every precaution but there does not seem to be a serious concern. Still, I can understand why this is scary for someone who was never in hospital except to have his tonsils out at age six. I am picking up some of his anxiety, of course.
