To everyone who answered my previous post, thank you. The encouragement helped me stick with the task. Earlier this evening I wrote most of the final chapter of my book project. It didn't resolve the way I would like, but I can deal with that later. Now I go back to write chapters 2 through 11.

I'm still awfully dissatisfied with the product, but it was easier to write than the last chapter. As usual when I write quickly I'm happier with the style.

I keep identifying subjects I need to research for the book. It would be enjoyable if I could just relax about it.

:pats you on the back: Yes!!! That's all it takes, one day at a time, one page at a time. It doesn't matter if it's excellent at this stage, or perfect -- that's what rewrites are for. But, you know that. The hard part is letting yourself go enough to get the first draft done. (speaks to herself as well)

At this point the compulsion to go back and start over is almost overwhelming. But I think the right thing is still to carry on, one chapter after another. I can let the project become more complicated at the rewrite stage. For now I'm trying to focus on finishing a first draft. Completing something would boost my confidence.

I'm doing the very same thing with _Justine Again_ and am feeling every other day like canning it and starting over, but I won't if you won't. Imagine how great it will feel just to HAVE that first draft completely done.

Agreed! Is _Justine Again_ a novel? Sorry, this is probably an ignorant question, but I have only been following your journal for a few weeks.

Yes it is. I even made it into an LJ [livejournal.com profile] justineagain. One thing I found really useful was to find pictures of people that were the characters. Then I could See them.
