Rockwood

This afternoon Brenna and I went to Rockwood Conservation Area, a peculiar little park full of glacial potholes. Its limestone cliffs are nowhere near as magnificent or wild as the granite precipice Marian and I explored in Algonquin Park last week, but beautiful in their own way. Rockwood is barely a 15 minute drive from where I live. In many ways I do not miss owning a car, but I do long for a time when I can make excursions like this anytime I want.

Adiantum pedatum, maidenhair fern

Brenna and I swam in the lake and explored the potholes. Then she swam some more while I spent a few minutes with Hairy Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which I started reading for the first time last night. I have already finished books 2 and 3 this month.

Here's a closer look. It's one of our more delicate ferns, a favourite of mine.

The Harry Potter series is EXTREMELY addictive...be forewarned...or post-warned...or...hmm...meso-warned...whatever.

It's interesting to see you take the individual time with each of your daughters...

It worked out better this summer than usual because they went to different summer camps. I spent all last week with Marian; we have never had that much extended time alone together. Sunday I dropped her off and picked up Brenna, who is with me until tomorrow.

You forgot to remind me.....WHERE ARE YOU STAYING IN MONTREAL???!!!

I spent a few minutes with Hairy Potter

You didn't do this on purpose, did you?

Haha, no, it was a happily chaotic typo.

There's much more to see, a lot of weird formations packed into a little piece of land. I'd be happy to guide you there anytime. It's close enough to Toronto for an afternoon drive.

Those Harry Potter books are fantastic. I've never gone through so many pages in such a short time.

It just struck me how beautiful the second photo is... I really hadn't taken the time to take in the whole scene. I wish we had scenery like that around here. You truly have an amazing eye.

Most of the other potholes were not covered with duckweed like this. We were just walking through the woods and suddenly came upon this emerald pool and it knocked my eyes out. It was magical.
