Picking my favourite photos for 2004 has been harder than last year. Few stuck out for me the way they did in 2003. Admittedly I have devoted less time and thought to photography the past three months, but it's not that I'm dissatisfied with this year's output. I took more than 9,000 photos this year, more than ever before. The problem was I had too many favourites to choose from. I had to make many arbitrary choices to pare my selections down to 16.

The May 29 photo was taken with [livejournal.com profile] djjo's Nikon CoolPix. All the rest were taken with my Kodak DX3500.

I'll post them in two parts, in order by date.

Eramosa River, Guelph, January 12.

Ossington Station, Toronto, January 27.

Allan Gardens, Toronto, February 27.

Mountsberg Conservation Area, April 9.

Chrysanthemum, Toronto, May 29.

Eramosa River, Guelph, June 19.

Dock spiders, Lake Fletcher, July 1.

Rock Lake, Algonquin Provincial Park, July 8.

Wonderful (with a special fondness for the blue Chrysanthemum)

Have a great new year Van, look forward to more from your lens.

Thanks, Chris. The Chrysanthemum is my wallpaper, and I know two other LJers have been using it as theirs, so you're not alone with that.

I wonder, if I had a better camera would I take more of those macro images? But then, would I be too busy looking at the ground and miss the landscapes?

Thanks for all the inspiration, and best wishes to you for the new year.

I particularly like the Mountsberg Conservation Area picture. I've set it as my wallpaper.

I'm glad you like it; that photo contends with the Rock Lake photo for my overall favourite of the year. If you wish I would be happy to send a higher resolution image for your wallpaper. Just email me at vanwaffle AT gmail DOT com.

When I saw that one today (the first day that I was actually able to see the images), my first thought was "Oh good! You included the Escher!"

They're all wonderful. I'd have a hard time picking a favorite.

I've posted a few "Escher" images in this journal, in fact this one was posted among my favourites for 2003, dated November 6:

But I think the one from Mountsberg is my favourite so far.

Ah yes. I don't actually remember which one first reminded me of "Three Worlds", but this is certainly a candidate.

The Rock Lake photo is the one I referred to in my other comment; the original was perfectly composed without editing. It is one of the few that, to me, stands out above the others this year.

I love the photo of the spiders because although they're a familiar sight in summertime, I have never had such a beautiful opportunity to photograph them.

I can't see them. Judging from the error page I get when opening the images in a separate tab, it looks like you've exceeded your bandwidth quota for today. :-(
