The European Space Agency's Huygens probe has touched down safely on Saturn's moon, Titan. This is the farthest from earth one of our spacecraft has ever landed. Here is one of the first unprocessed images. It appears to show eroded rocks scattered across a surface of fine sediment:

But you think anyone can actually GET this image on their browser? The World Wide Wait has NEVER seemed so long!

I must have sat here for 10 minutes pressing refresh, but it wasn't half as bad as waiting for Neil Armstrong to step out of the lunar module.

You are too fast on the jump! I didn't think they'd have images ready today.

There are a few more images on the site today. I'll be interested to hear how they're interpreted. There appears to be evidence of the liquid hydrocarbon seas scientists had expected.

Completely nothing to do with this (sorry), but I think we said something about dancing tomorrow night. I'm thinking it may already be a long night. How about next week?

Yes, the next farthest landing was Mars, which ranges between 35 and 63 million miles from Earth. Saturn and its moons are more than 1 billion miles from Earth, so this was a major leap.
