Wyndham Street: waiting for the bus

Last fall [livejournal.com profile] poetbear told me his friend Norla was working in Guelph. Recently another mutual friend connected us. She is a writer and has joined the chorus.

Yesterday we met to talk about the Guelph-based website, mytown.ca, where Norla is an editor. Natalie, another chorister, joined us for a while. We told stories about wildlife we had rescued.

Mytown.ca is an evolving community of writers. Norla invited me to contribute. Overnight we set up pages of my poetry in three separate journals. Click the "library" links to view each list:
  • Charlotte's Other Web (erotica): five poems
  • Outsiders (general): six poems
  • As Best We Can (anthology for global peace and justice): two poems
On the way home, a nanny, little more than a child herself, boarded the bus with four preschool children. The youngest, a toddler, turned to a screaming hydra in her arms, but she held him, speaking patiently. Another young woman offered a grape sucker out of her purse.

Facing the aisle sat a little woman with long, tired hair pushed through the back of a ballcap. She had the taut look of an addict. She held her hand in front of her eyes. Tears dripped from her chin.
